abstract = {Today, mobile network operators control most personal mobile device
platforms on which voice calls can be made. Because of this, it is
quite challenging for non-telecommunication players, such as broadcasters,
to offer new, innovative and often competing service models on these
devices which require specific hardware and software components.

This paper introduces the concept of open mobile broadcasting phones
as a potential solution to these issues and as a catalyst for the
creation of innovative mobile broadcasting applications. A survey
of current open mobile platforms is presented and a first attempt
by CRC to integrate an open mobile broadcasting phone prototype is
described. More specifically, offline decoding of a DAB audio service
was achieved on the OpenMoko-based Neo1973 phone with little effort.
This confirms the viability of the proposed approach which could
	be potentially very attractive.},
